Holy Week and Easter at St. David's: A Journey Through Faith and Renewal

As spring blossoms around us, Christians just experienced one of the most sacred and meaningful times of the year: Holy Week and Easter. This season invites us into a deep reflection on the final days of Jesus Christ’s earthly life, culminating in the powerful celebration of His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Palm Sunday – The Journey Begins

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, a day that commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. At St. David’s, this is marked with a special blessing and procession with palm leaves, reminding us of the crowds who welcomed Jesus with shouts of "Hosanna!" waving palm branches as a sign of hope and praise. It is a joyful yet solemn beginning to a week that will take us through the depths of sorrow to the heights of eternal joy. While Palm Sunday begins in triumph, the service concludes with the Passion Reading of Jesus’ trial and Crucifixion.

Holy Wednesday – Stations of the Cross, Walking His Path

We walk the path with Jesus as we attempt to share in the solemness and sorrow of His conviction and arduous path carrying the cross to his death, ending at His entombment.

Maundy Thursday – A Call to Humility

Maundy Thursday draws us into the intimacy of the Last Supper, where Jesus dined with His disciples for the final time. This day is more than a remembrance of a meal—it is a call to live in service and humility. Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, teaching us that no one is above another and that we are called to love and serve one another selflessly. Our Maundy Thursday service reflects this spirit with prayer, communion, quiet reflection and ends with the ritual cleansing of the Altar.

Good Friday – The Depth of Sacrifice

On Good Friday, we remember the day Jesus was crucified—a moment of profound sorrow and divine sacrifice. It is a solemn day of mourning and contemplation, as we reflect on the cost of grace and the depth of God’s love. Through scripture readings, music, and silence, we are invited to stand at the foot of the cross and witness the ultimate act of redemption.

Easter Sunday – He Is Risen!

Then comes the highlight of the Christian year: Easter Sunday—a joyous celebration of Jesus’ resurrection and victory over death. It is a time of rejoicing, singing, and proclaiming the Good News: He is risen! The sanctuary is filled with light, flowers, and the sound of praise as we celebrate the miracle that lies at the heart of our faith.
