Good Friday is a significant day in the Christian calendar that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It falls on the Friday of Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter Sunday.
On Good Friday, Christians around the world observe a solemn day of prayer, reflection, and fasting, as they remember the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. According to the Gospel accounts, Jesus was betrayed, arrested, tried, and ultimately sentenced to death by crucifixion. He was mocked, beaten, and forced to carry his own cross to the place of his execution, a hill outside Jerusalem called Golgotha or Calvary.
At noon, Jesus was nailed to the cross and hung there for several hours, in excruciating pain and agony. He died in the late afternoon, and his body was taken down from the cross and buried in a nearby tomb.
For Christians, Good Friday is a day to contemplate the meaning and significance of Jesus' sacrifice, and to remember the depth of God's love for humanity. Many churches hold services of solemn reflection, with readings, hymns, prayers, and the veneration of the cross. It is a day to remember that Jesus willingly suffered and died for the forgiveness of sins, so that all who believe in him may have eternal life.
