More About Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday is a significant day in the Christian calendar, which falls on the Thursday of Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter Sunday. It commemorates the Last Supper, which Jesus Christ shared with his disciples on the night before his crucifixion.

During the Last Supper, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, an act of humility and service that symbolized his love for them. He also shared bread and wine with them, telling them that the bread was his body and the wine was his blood, which would be sacrificed for the forgiveness of sins.

Maundy Thursday is also known as Holy Thursday or Covenant Thursday, and the word "Maundy" comes from the Latin word "mandatum," which means "commandment." This refers to the commandment that Jesus gave to his disciples during the Last Supper, to love one another as he had loved them.

In many Christian churches, Maundy Thursday is marked by a special service that includes the washing of feet, the sharing of bread and wine, and the reading of the Gospel accounts of the Last Supper. It is a time for Christians to reflect on the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ, and to renew their commitment to love and serve one another as he did.
