3/3/2021

St. David’s Nominating Committee is overjoyed to announce that they have completed their search process and have presented a slate of stellar candidates for our rector position to the Vestry. We cannot thank our St. David’s family enough for your continued support, prayers, and love in these unprecedented times.

With God’s help, the next update you’ll receive regarding our search will be the announcement of our next rector! Please continue to pray that God’s hand be upon our candidates and Vestry as they discern over the next several weeks who that individual will be!

Important Invitation from Fr. Dean

1/26/2021

DO YOU miss seeing your friends from St. David’s?

WOULD YOU like to see St. David’s come together spiritually on something we all share in common?

COULD YOU spend an hour each week in Lent learning more about Jesus?

St. David’s invites EVERYONE IN THE PARISH
to sign up for the

The “Simply Jesus” Project
The SJP (Simply Jesus Project) is a small-group Lenten opportunity to “get reintroduced” to your friends at St. David’s, to share and learn new things about Jesus, and to spiritually prepare not only for Easter but for the “new era” at St. David’s when our new rector arrives.

Here’s what to do:
Email jan@stdavidchurch.org
and give your name (including spouse), phone number, and--this is very important—whether you would like to be in a virtual group or an in-person group.

You will be placed in a group of six fellow parishioners, who are similarly interested in either a virtual or in-person group. Each group will have a leader who will be responsible for setting a meeting time and place (for in-person groups) or setting a Zoom Meeting time (for virtual groups). Before each meeting, each group will watch a 15-minute video taken from the N.T. Wright series, Simply Jesus: A New Vision of Who He Was, and Why He Matters.

The first video will be supplied to group leaders on Friday, February 19 so that your group will have it available when it decides to meet. In-person groups will need to abide by the usual Coronavirus protocols: social distancing, masks, and preferably outdoor meeting places.

Please sign up by Wednesday, February 10!
Call Fr. Dean for details at 770-993-6084

"Our Invisible Neighbors:
Financial Vulnerability in North Fulton"

Did you know that a family of four needs an income of about $80,000 to cover the cost of living expenses in our neighborhood, i.e. North Fulton County? Did you know that about 60,000 families in North Fulton are “financially vulnerable” (they would be unable to recover from an unexpected financial shock, such as illness or loss of income)?
Please join us via Zoom on January 12 at 6:30 pm as we focus on the work of the North Fulton Improvement Network, a think tank of community leaders from northern Fulton County who are working to address the widespread but little known financial vulnerability across this region. Jack Murphy, Chair of NFIN, will share the challenges some face living in our area as well as information on best practices, long-term solutions, and how we at St. David's can make an impact. As always, after the presentation, we will break into small groups for a confidential discussion.
For more information, please contact Lee Hunter or St. David's office.

January 2021, Parish Update from Fr. Dean

1/7/2021

Hello, St. David’s Friends, this is Dean Taylor, your Interim Rector, on this second week of January in this new year, 2021.

I know that there are at least TWO important questions on your minds that I want to talk with you about. First, When are we getting a new rector, and
Second, When are we getting back to church?

First Question: I want to tell you that I have seen the schedule that the Search Committee has made for themselves, and I can assure you that they are in HIGH GEAR.

They are meeting weekly, if not several times a week, and there are set times in the next months that they will be working hard to find our new rector. They will be conducting interviews by Skype and bringing the Finalists to campus, where the Vestry will select the person who is to be your new rector. Please keep this dedicated group of fellow parishioners in your prayers. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel here!

Speaking of the light at the end of the tunnel: YES, there will be a time when we can all worship together inside our beloved sanctuary.

We can Thank God that a vaccine is on its way. I think and hope that it is sooner, rather than later. However, as you all know, the numbers of sick and dying are skyrocketing this month—this week.

And so, FOR NOW, we will continue our worship ONLINE ONLY. We will NOT be worshipping outside FOR THE TIME BEING. Your safety—and the community’s safety—are just too important to risk at this time.

I know, I know Your staff, Vestry, and I have been agonizing over how we can manage to bring back the worship we love so much. We “feel your pain” because it’s OUR PAIN as well.

I ask for your understanding, your patience, and above all, your PRAYERS for St. David’s. Folks, we’re ALMOST THERE! Don’t give up yet! There is a light at the end of this tunnel, and we will do EVERYTHING WE CAN to HELP ONE ANOTHER ALONG until WE ALL GET THERE TOGETHER.

I’ll be in touch soon about the specific things we have planned for upcoming Sundays, and—believe it or not—Lent, which is fast approaching.

God bless you all for hanging in there!

Dearest Parishioners,

Your contributions for altar flowers in remembrance of a loved one or commemoration of a special event is an integral component of St. David’s Flower Guild's budget. In an effort to update our records we are doing away with the sign-up book that has been found on the welcome desk.

Moving forward, if you would like to dedicate the flowers on the altar, or continue dedicating flowers on the altar, please fill out the online form on the St. David’s website or complete the new envelopes on the Welcome desk (once the Church has resumed normal services)

Online Instructions.

Once you fill out the information on the form, which includes your name, contact information, event, and person to be commemorated, you will be directed to the “giving” section of our website where you can make your $75.00 contribution by using your credit card. Here is the link.

If you chose to write a check, please put" altar flowers” on the memo line and drop it off at the church or mail it to St. David’s Episcopal Church, attn: Rebecca Cline, 1015 Old Roswell Rd., Roswell, GA. 30076. Please note we will have to receive your contribution before we can post it to the church bulletin.

We encourage you to make a flower donation for Christmas. A list of contributors and those commemorated will be published at Christmas.
The Flower Guild is very appreciative of the continued support of the parishioners of St. David’s.

If you have any questions, please contact Karen Marhsall, Flower Guild Chairman, Karenmarshall2007@att.et

Join our St. David’s Choir and Virtual Singers, as they sing anthems and hymns with choirs, readers, and instrumentalists from around the world in a splendid 2020 debut Lessons and Carols Service, virtually broadcast from London on Sunday, December 20th, 5 pm EST.

Here is the link to our Order of Service
https://www.theselfisolationchoir.com/s/Christmas-at-home-order-of-service.pdf
It includes all carols and readings and as a result, it is quite a long document. You may wish to use a tablet rather than printing it out. It is recommended that you listen to this Service of Lessons and Carols using headphones, for best audio fidelity. Please note, the only video content is Ben England, conductor, the choir, and the extracts from Messiah. The children, Recordare Soloists, the Readings, and soloists are audio-only.
