Philosophy of St. David’s Episcopal Church Preschool
St.
David’s Preschool is a ministry of St. David’s Episcopal
Church. The Preschool Director is Peggy
Fallon. The mission of our preschool is to seek to serve young children
and their families in the Roswell/Alpharetta area community. We believe
a good preschool program should be based on developmental principles
and this will be the basis of designing educational experiences. Our
curriculum is directed toward the formation of basic concepts and readiness
skills though the use of many varied “hands on”, concrete
learning experiences.
A young child’s environment should provide many opportunities for play,
exploration, and creative activities which promote skills in problem solving
, thinking and reasoning, language and socialization. Much emphasis is placed
on a child’s physical development—small and large motor—as
this critically affects all other areas of developmental learning.
Above all, we believe that each child is sacred, special, and unique.
We seek to meet his or her particular individual needs in a secure,
emotionally supportive environment. Every child is treated, at all times,
as God’s own and is treated in a fashion which would please Jesus
Christ, a lover of children. It is our sincere hope that the children
who come to St. David’s Preschool will find a joyful, enriching
learning experience that will develop a love for learning and a sense
of security that will last a lifetime.
Teaching Staff
The teaching staff of St. David’s Preschool consists of a teaching
team of two teachers, each with experience in early childhood education
and trained in Infant/Child CPR. The classes meet in the Sunday School
classrooms, most of which have small bathrooms between adjoining rooms.
The children also utilize the church’s music room and parish hall
for Music and Movement, a preschool chapel, and three different shaded,
gated, age-appropriate playgrounds.
