EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY
(EfM)
25th Anniversary of EfM at St. David’s
EfM has openings for 2010-11!
APPLICATION DEADLINE: August 10, 2010
WHY? Are you looking for deepening in your spiritual journey? Do you want to pursue your Christian education in a serious way? Would you like to learn how to reflect theologically? Do you want to be better prepared for your lay ministries? If your answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then EfM (Education for Ministry) is for you.
WHO? EfM is for the laity of the church and enhances knowledge, faith, and confidence about our call to Christ’s ministry. More than 21,000 participants have graduated from the four-year program since its beginning in 1975.
WHAT? EfM is a distance learning theological education program of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Although completion of the program takes four years, participants only need to commit to one year (nine months of class) at a time. Participants follow a weekly lesson and study guide: “first-years” study the Old Testament; “second-years” the New Testament; “third-years” study history of the Christian church; and “fourth-years” study theology. The weekly seminars are led by a trained mentor who is certified by EfM. Class time is devoted primarily to theological reflection, the reading materials, and worship. Participants share their thoughts and feelings, in a safe environment, as they learn to think theologically. There are no tests or papers because EfM presupposes that adult education best takes place when the student is responsible for his or her own learning. St. David’s has had an EfM class for the last 24 years. The Diocese of Atlanta sponsors EfM in this diocese which reduces tuition to $350 per year.
WHEN & WHERE? Monday, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
September 13 through May 2011
Bethany Room (upstairs back hallway)
